The Rebbe often reminded us of the biblical verse “and the living shall take to heart.” At times of increased darkness, let us think and try to find ways to increase the goodness and light with positive deeds.
For example:
-
Increase in unity. The attacker harbored senseless hatred towards Jewish people. Let us increase our love for every one of our people. We are all one family.
-
Show Jewish pride. Especially at this time, demonstrate that we are proud of our Jewish identity. Whether it is through affixing a mezuzah, wearing a kippah, or simply sharing the ethics and values of Torah with those around us (See: Seven Laws for a Beautiful Planet).
-
Add a mitzvah in memory of the victims. Whether reciting the daily Shema, wrapping tefillin, lighting Shabbat candles, giving Tzedakah or any other mitzvah, let’s try to add a good deed and dedicate it to the memory of those ruthlessly killed.
May our collective mitzvot help bring comfort and peace at this challenging time. May we soon see the day when "G-d will wipe away the tears from every face" with the arrival of the era of Redemption for all Mankind.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Yitzchok Schmukler
Chabad of the Bay Area
P.S. If there is any way we can be of assistance, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
