Tuesday, 26 May, 2020 - 12:27 pm

Shavuot is a two-day holiday, which this year falls out on Thursday, May 28 at sunset and ends on Saturday, May 30 after nightfall (See candle-lighting times in the column on the right).

It marks the date that G‑d gave the Torah to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai more than 3,300 years ago, which came after 49 days of counting, as we prepared ourselves for this special day.

It is celebrated by lighting candlesstaying up all night to learn Torahhearing the reading of the Ten Commandments in synagoguefeasting on dairy foods and more.
