Tragedy in Poway

Sunday, 28 April, 2019 - 9:04 pm

We are all shocked and pained by the vicious anti-semitic attack at Chabad of Poway synagogue yesterday during Passover & Shabbat services.

We share in the grief of the family of Lori Gilbert-Kaye (Leah bat Reuven) and pray for the healing of those injured – Noyah bat Eden Dahan (Age 8), Almog Yosef (Alon) ben Ruti Peretz and Rabbi Yisrael ben Chana Priva Goldstein – heroes who risked their lives to help save others.

  • There will be a community-wide solidarity gathering tomorrow at the ERJCC in Houston:
Monday, April 29 at 6:30 PM at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center, 5601 South Braeswood, Houston, TX 77096 - Event info
  • Spiritually, we need to help change the world for the better. The Rebbe would always emphasize that increasing the light is the best way to transform the darkness. Let us do our part to increase the goodness and kindness around us. Let us add a mitzvah – honoring the memory of those who passed, while also adding spiritual light into our lives and our environment.
  • We cannot and must not allow ourselves to shrink back from gathering together for Torah study, prayer and celebrating Jewish life – for if we do, we our handing a victory to those dark forces. Instead, we must increase in the above and give the message to ourselves, our families and the world at large that Am Yisrael Chai – the People of Israel are Alive and will shine ever brighter!

Watch: Rabbi Yisrael Goldstein, injured in the attack, gives a first-hand account and shares powerful reflections from his hospital room

May this be the last painful event experienced in exile, and may we very soon see the day when only goodness and G-dliness will reign, with the coming of Moshiach speedily in our days.

Rabbi Yitzchok and Malky Schmukler
Chabad of the Bay Area
