The concept of a special summer experience for Jewish youth may trace back to a summer camp back in the New York City of 1893, but Rabbi Yitzchok Schmukler, director of the Chabad of the Bay Area, tells Our Faith that he is opening what will be the first Jewish day camp in our Bay Area now.
It will run for two weeks from Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 22, and will be hosted by Chabad under the name Camp Gan Israel (CGI). The CGI tradition dates back to 1956 and welcomes youth from all Jewish traditions at sites all over the United States.

In Houston’s sprawling community, Jews who have not necessarily affiliated with a synagogue find a home in Chabad. One of these such homes, Chabad of the Bay Area, is located at 2047 W. Main St., Suite B7, in League City. Co-directors Rabbi Yitzchok and Malky Schmukler primarily serve the Clear Lake, Galveston and Pearland areas.

David Nesenoff to speak at Chabad Bay Area
Blogger, filmmaker, songwriter and whistleblower David Nesenoff will be speaking in the Houston area on Wednesday, Jan. 13, and Thursday, Jan 14. Open to the entire community, Nesenoff’s appearance is sponsored by Chabad of The Woodlands and Chabad of the Bay Area, respectively.
