Young Chabad couple serves space center community

There’s no official history on New Year’s resolutions, but many if not most, religions permit the making of vows of various sorts. In present-day culture, these promises often focus on diet, addictions, relationships and the use of free time.

You may be fit as a fiddle and looking younger every day. You may follow every doctor’s health advice religiously, but whatever you do, you’ll never live long enough to see Thanksgiving and Hanukkah overlap again as they will next week. It’s a once-in-many-lifetimes event. So how do sages celebrate this confluence?

Baybrook Mall will have its annual Chanukah celebration at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of the Sears and Macy’s corridors. This year’s party will feature the lighting of a uniquely designed Menorah, hands-on crafts, delicious hot latkes, doughnuts and chocolate gelt.

While it’s no surprise to see a young church meeting in a house, school, even occasionally under a tent, most Jewish congregations — as well as the vast majority of churches — have chosen to build sanctuaries.

Adults and children are invited to participate in the construction of the largest Menorah in the Houston area ever constructed from Legos.

Hot latkes, doughnuts, prizes, gelt and dreidels will be served and participants will have the opportunity to have a free professional digital photo taken in front of the Lego Menorah.
